VAT UPDATE - JAN 2010

As we are you will be aware, VAT has gone back up to 17.5% from 1st January 2010.  All our case prices reflect VAT being charged at the new rate.  Some of the individual bottle prices may still show VAT rate at the 15%.  If so, you don't need to worry about it, but we shall make the necessary amendment when we prepare our next VAT return.  At the end of the day, the gross price will remain the same for you.

VAT UPDATE - JAN 2009

Some of you may be wondering why there hasn't been a small reduction in our case and bottle prices to reflect the reduction in VAT from 17.5% to 15%.  The basic answer is because, when it comes to wines and beers, the Chancellor has given with one hand and then quite cynically taken with the other hand.  So, yes, VAT has been reduced to 15%, but at the same time, Duty has been increased correspondingly to reflect the VAT reduction.

This means that, for all wines under £6.00 (which are most of our wines), the Chancellor is actually taking more tax!  Some reduction!  Break even point is achieved at £6.00, so the VAT reduction and the Duty increase balance each other.  Over £6.00, there is actually a very small reduction in all taxes charged.

We are in the process of changing all our prices on the website to reflect the new VAT charge, so if you find that you are being charged VAT at 17.5%, please contact us and we shall provide you with fresh figures, taking into account the VAT change.  However, we shall not be reducing our prices.  The gross price will remain the same.  All that will happen is that the VAT charged will be reduced by 2.5%.

Please accept our apologies if you do find that we have missed changing one of the VAT figures.

VAT UPDATE - MAR 2010

Following Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling's last budget, we have now changed all our VAT figures to reflect the new VAT rate of 17.5%.  As before, if there is a VAT charge on any of our wines featured on the website at the 15% rate, do not worry, as we shall simply alter the rate at this end and take the hit for the increase.
